Programs for the Opening and Closing Ceremonys of the Nagano Winter Olympic Games

For the program for the Opening Ceremony of the Nagano Winter Olympic Games, we developed special paper that would evoke images of snow and ice. When paper with a white fluffy texture is debossed, making that area translucent, like the footprints on ice or in the new-fallen snow. The texture of the material elicits the images of this festival of snow and ice. The typography of the text in the Program for the Closing Ceremony illustrates the attempt at the sort of hybrid graphic composition, whose layout has the Japanese text running vertically and the French and English running horizontally.
